Jane Gardam a publié une trentaine d’ouvrages et reçu plusieurs prix. Seule auteure à avoir obtenu deux fois le Whitbread Costa Prize du meilleur roman de l’année, elle a aussi été nommée pour le prestigieux Booker Prize en 1978 avec Dieu par-dessus bord. Reconnue parmi ses pairs, Gardam est Fellow de la Royal Society of Literature, et elle a été faite officier de l’Empire britannique en 2009.
